Updates have been a little slack… mother has been in the hospital for practically half of 2009. But here’s a quick recap!

Xmas 08

Chef! Mumma and Daddy are eating a lot of blue playdoh pizza. Yum!

Cousin Tilda would eat it too, if given half a chance! Hell, she’d eat my hat!

Monties, officially nominated Cafe of the Year. Thanks JD, Jacques and Sebastian for all the “coffee please?” and general toddler indulgence!

New best friend, Barack who Barks to celebrate our new president in America.

Still Papa’s little shadow. And Nana’s cuddle buddy.

This beach thing, well that rocks!

And totally King of the ladies at PlayGroup. And what a bunch of laaaaaaydies! :-) Looking forward to seeing them all again this year.

It wont be long and my little brother or sister will be here. I call him/her, “New Baby”. But I did tell Nana the other day, “I might have a sister.”

Who knows?!

Stunt Driving…

Spike loves wheels. All wheels. Any wheels. He’s particularly partial to the wheels on his bike. Your bike. Any bike. He was given a little ride on trike, he loved it. He loved it to death. Here you can see him trying to save its life. Stat!

Ill Fix It!

This lil bike did 14 yrs of hard service and it was OUR wee boy who took it’s life. Viva le Bike!

He’d ride it full pelt around the house. Off the steps into his room. Up the step into the lounge. He’d fully slide it sideways into the coffee table, lean over and order a drink before taking off like hell on… well, wheels again. Here’s one it’s last stunts.

What does a boy do without wheels? Well, his Mum hits eBay and voila – here’s the new mongrel.

Getcha motor running…
Get out on the highWAY!

He has another trike at Nana and Papa’s but yeterday, he bent the wheel on that one too! It’s a much sturdier bike so Papa assures us he will be able to rescue and rehabilitate it before our next visit. He tried to do it while we were there but “Spike’s kinda help” wasn’t actually conducive to good bike engineering. Or so the foreman said.

Evil Spikevel’s been preparing for the new baby by pointing to things – generally things he no longer wants or is not allowed to have – and will say, “For the new baby.”
“Yes dude, the collapsed dummy is for the new baby. Thanks.”

Dunno if he’s going to be quite so willing to share his new bike. But that’s not our problem… that’s the new baby’s dilemma.

Speaking of new babies. New t.shirts are up on our online-store. Get yours while they’re still up! Only the coolest of kids are wearing them.

MBP tshirt

We all hope you have a lovely holiday season. What ever rocks your boat. Xmas Trees, Dradles or Goats in Fancy Dress. This will be Spike’s 3rd Xmas and he’s still not been introduced to Santa Claus. Mumma has though… so she knows where the good presents come from!

See you in 2009.

Cooking?!

Yes Chef!

My mum said right from the git-go, “that kid will be a chef.” She said it mainly cause I used tea-towels instead of stupid tiny bibs when I fed him. They caught an appropriate amount of baby sick and were easy to wash. Well, he’s not quite doing any shifts at Joe’s Garage or The Supper Club yet but he l-o-v-e-s ‘cooking?!’ A handful of dried pasta and a few different boxes/bowls/cups to mix around with his own Ikea collection of spoons, whisks and egg slices – he’s a happy camper. He loves to watch the ‘cooking?!’ on the telly. Not a big fan of Jamie Oliver but thinks Manu Fieldel is quite amusing… (I guess it’s cause they both speak French so well).

Now, there’s always been lots of fun to be had at GrandMa and Papa’s house. There’s “Woof, Goo’ gorl” Mardhi and “Skwoork” the loud rooster. LOTS of room to go for a “walk, Papa?” in the garden, the little itty bitty baby baby grand piano to bang on, the bikes to ride and NOW there’s the contents of the pots ‘n pans cupboard.

chefs choice

Last week he was playing in the lounge with the contents of the kitchen piled about the place. He was mixing a ‘cay-ke’ and generally being busy, when he lifted the saucepan onto the top of the toy piano, ‘adjusted it’ in to the right spot then turned the imaginary knob just above the piano keys to “hot” – well, we knew he’d reached a new milestone. The kid cooks with imaginary gas. What a whacker!

salting your margarita

Sure, he may over-salt your Margaritas and who doesn’t love a glassful of pepper to go with their water? Foam blocks served on the inside of a spectacle case are this seasons nouveau cuisine, I don’t care who you are! (also low carb and virtually, vegan!) I just wish he’d employ his own Sous Chef to clean up after him!

He’s also just started going to Play Group. Most of the kids are about 6 months older but he’s slipped in, no problems. I don’t think he’s ever seen that many kids, roughly his own size in the same spot ever before. “Hullo!” he said as he barged in and made himself at home. “Bike!” And he was off. One of the little boys turned 2 yesterday, so there was cake and singing. Spike sat on his bike and watched the gathering around the cake and yayed and clapped after the candles had been extinguished but there didn’t seem to be anything that would necessitate the relinquishing of the bike. The other kids ate cake and fought over the crumbs, Spike just cruised around happily “beep beeping” his way across the room. I guess when you’ve been cooking all day, the last thing you want to do is fight a tableful of toddlers for store bought cake. Aww, he’s our littlest foodie.

And like any great chef, he has his own signature dish.

He calls it, le Oeufs ‘n Choo-Choo’s. (eggs and trains on a whole wheat base)

18 months old

Lets see. What’s he been doing for the last couple of months?

img_5841.jpg

His second Oscars. He still did not win anything. Pfff! Stupid Academy! What’s a kid gotta do?!
There were a few more plane trips. A few more stamps in his passport. (First run for the microchipped Aussie passport this time!)
His first (possibly) memorable experience with snow. Verdict: “Not sure.” Another visit with Granny Allie (who is fairly convinced he is the second coming – she’s right of course). Uncle Greg, Saint Dawn, Ozz and Glenda Sue (whom he found MOST interesting!) And he welcomed the arrival of his first little cousin. Miss Tilda!

img_5817.jpg img_5220.jpg img_5266.jpg

I gotta say, the kid travels REALLY well! Every time he surprises us with how well he does it. WAAAAY better than his complainy Mumma. He has his own remote to play with. Some toys. People to ‘talk’ to and a bed to sleep in. What else could a little monkey need? Phenergan? Well, just this once. heh He’s a little champ! And people have asked, how do you keep a toddler amused at each airport while waiting for connecting flights? Simple. The escalator. Or as it’s known in our family, the Spike-O-mill! We just took it in turns to hold a hand (incase of accident and to pull him out of the way of silly people going the wrong way! D’uh!)

We had a fabbo time in Colorado. The snow tried to hold off but thought better of the situation and gave us a nice covering to play in. Spike was happy to put on his little leather jacket, “Jagg-et!” and hit the slopes/inclines/sidewalks! We did a lot of eating out too. He seemed to be quite fond of Mexican food. As Nancy and Roger were privvy too. Ditto the floor around him. LA is LA, no changes there but any time spent with our friends who remain in town is always good value. Uncle Copscotch is right on his wavelength. And the japes Uncle Gelder pulls with a plate of pasta? Well, Encore!

img_5350.jpg img_5343.jpg img_5347.jpg

He continues to be quite tall. Quite blonde and curly. Not to mention, quite LOUD! He has a new found love for Playschool. Our friend Corinne was over the other day while he was watching it and she remarked, “Hey! They’re singing the same songs they used to sing when *I* watched it!” And she’s right. Noni can even be found hosting some days! PlaySchool is his bed time ritual. it’s the only thing he will sit still for. Until it gets to story time, then he’s off! If he didn’t devour his own books, I’d be worried! He’s also just started ’singing’ Twinkle Twinkle. Thanks to GrandMa who sings it to him. “Chinkle chinkle lil ss’aar. Par parbove the worl so so. Ike dy-mund sky. Chinkle chinkle ss’aar!” Put that with the hand movements and you’ve got yerself a bone fide Kodak moment. When they sang it on PlaySchool the other day (as I was trying to settle him down for his morning sleep) he lost his tiny bowl of nuts! “Mumma! Par parbove!” What a spazz! heh

He’s still yacking up a storm. A little English and some Chinese and a little Urdu as far as we can tell. All of it emphatically delivered and in full force over the phone. Most mornings begin with calling out for Daddy. Then brekky. Pretty soon after that he will find his socks and head for the front door.

“Papa?”
“No, no Papa today.”
“Awww!” [pause] “S(h)ooes? Car?”
“How about a walk to the park?”
“No.”

Then he waits for a while.

“Papa?”

He thinks Mumma has the memory of a goldfish! (Ok, some days she does. But HE shouldn’t know that!)

img_5542.jpg img_5427.jpg img_0007.jpg

He’s still biffin’ shit off the balcony which drives us nuts. So we have a firm rule of taking his beloved dummy off him now if the balcony doors are open. “You can’t have both!” “Aww! Didi?” (see what I mean about the memory?) Another fave toy is his little blue and yellow bike. He corners like Mick Doohan and soars off the steps like Evil Kinevel! We took it for a run along the beach yesterday. Land speed records may well have been broken.

img_5934.jpg img_5959.jpg img_5357.jpg

He’s just perfect. And it’s always going to be this good and this easy. Right? Right?! Hullo? Is this thing on!?
