Life is an everyday audition for NIDA.
Ergo the equation, Theatrics + Monarch = Spike.
So, he’s turned 2 and a half and suddenly we’re getting a LOT of “noooooooooo!” and “I said, I’m busy!” and the ever popular “I said yes, I said!” delivered at such a heart stopping rate of raw emotion, there is not a dry eye in the house. (Tears of laughter do count.) He’s also cultivating a fine basis for his other career option, Full Time Hypochondriac. Limping child hobbles into frame, groaning. “I’m going to the Doctor today.” “I have a sore leg.” And the magic combo of NIDA student AND hypochondriac, Child watches ill mother stagger out of bed. He swoons on to couch, taking care to land, good side up. “Ooh, oooh, oh Mumma. I’ve got such a sore head/leg/throat too.” So I guess as long as I keep writing medical dramas/comedies the kid will always have work… ?
He is also rather ‘method’ when it comes to his acting. For instance, he plays a very good dog. Modelled on Mardhi (Nana and Papa’s pup) who likes to stand on the back of the couch and bark out the window. Spike threw himself into the role and promptly off the back of the couch between the rock and a the glass window. He came up with a large bump on his head (roughly the size and shape of the strawberry below) but there was no doubt in anyone’s mind – those cars remained barked at!
He plays fetch and will roll over to have his belly scratched but thankfully, isn’t shitting on other peoples lawns. (although I do have a list…) He loves to dress up, usually as a chef and is currently obsessed with ALL forms of flight. Planes and helicopters must be identified immediately and their flight status given. “They going to the airport, Mum.” “He’s got he’s lights on. He’s going to the airport.” and “Oh?! An aeroplane, can you see it? He’s going to the airport.”
He remains THE world’s most gregarious little boy. Would say hi to a mannequin AND get a response in any situation. E-v-e-r-y-o-n-e is treated to a ‘hullo!” and a “goodbye”. Groups are greeted with a rousing, “hullo ladies!” and farewelled with a hearty “bye everyone. See you next time”. He looooves Playgroup, especially Ms Parker. Luckily Mumma loves Parker too, she’s a peach.
Toddler, Actor, Comedian, Kelpie Cross, Aircraft Controller. He is all these things and more. But my favourite role to watch him play is, Big Brother. Someone give the kid an award! Best Big Brother, Evah.
Til next time.
